In fact, ' Reva ' has been rigorously tested for over 1 million KM`s, before it reached its first customer.
That is like taking the car an unbelievable 25 times around the globe.
It has passed all mandatory safety tests.
The specially designed steel space frame and side impact beams

Injury to passengers is also minimised in the event of a collision due to special crush zone under the

impact upto 10km/hr.
As the power pack is situated under the front seats
the centre of gravity is lowered, increasing the stability of the car.
Added safety features include seatbelts and adjustable head rests
(designed for the comfort of people of various height).

Some of the special features found in it are as follows:
It will not move unless the charge cable is unplugged from the charge port.
In case you have forgotten to engage the parking brake or leave the keys in the car,
warning chimes are activated.
The service light on the indicator panel glows whenever the car requires servicing.
In case the water level recedes in the Power Pack the battery water level lamp indicates this condition.
The prime mover in it, is the motor.
It is similar to the engine in a conventional car. It has a 13 kW separately excited DC motor with a high
torque of 70 Nm at zero speed. When in use, the motor converts the energy stored in the Power Pack
into mechanical motion. The high torque electric motor ensures a quick acceleration.
The power from the motor is delivered to the wheels through the Trans-axle that propels the vehicle.
While braking, the motor acts like a generator and recharges the Power Pack.
It's Power Pack consists of eight 6-Volt EV tubular type lead acid batteries
that attain 80% state of charge in under 2.5 hours.
A complete charge is achieved in less than six hours.
The Power Pack is housed beneath the front seats, which lowers the center of gravity,
thus increasing the safety of passengers. Charging it is a safe and easy process
- Just plug into a 220 Volt, 15 Ampere socket - at home or at work.
It has an on-board Charger,
which converts AC into DC power to charge the power pack. The charger is computer controlled with
an in-built stabilizer and auto shut-off mechanism. The smart charger's output is connected to the
power pack and ensures that optimum current and voltage is maintained at all times.
It also has a computerized Motor Controller.
This regulates the flow of energy from the Power Pack to the Motor in direct relation to pressure
applied on the accelerator. It ensures perfect speed control and optimum use of energy in both
forward and reverse directions.
The brain of it is the Energy Management System
that monitors and controls all vital functions. The EMS is a computer based system that optimises
charging and energy output of batteries to maximise operating range and improve performance. The
system also predicts available range for a given state of battery charge and
is a standard feature on it.
The EMS also maintains an electronic log of the vehicle performance, enables service personnel to
run diagnostic checks on the car to give service information about the car.
Driving it is easy.
Just unplug after completing the charging process, turn the key, disengage the parking brake and
turn the control knob to the forward or reverse position.
Accelerate and take off.
It deploys the following 3 key proprietary technologies:
- Running Chassis
- Energy Management System (EMS)
- Climate Control Seats (CCS)
The Running Chassis
This consists of a very strong, self supporting, light weight space frame and includes the motor,
integrated power system, drive-train, steering, suspension, brakes, wheels, tyres and high voltage
systems. ABS body panels are directly attached to the space frame of the running chassis.
Energy Management System (EMS)
The EMS is a a computer based system that optimises charging and energy output of batteries to
maximise operating range and improve performance. The system also predicts available range for a
given state of battery charge and is a standard feature on it.
The EMS also maintains an electronic log of the vehicle performance, enables service personnel to
run diagnostic checks on the car to give service information about the car.
The EMS performs five key functions that collectively improve performance and reduce cost.
These are :
Charger control, State-of-Charge (SOC) Estimation, Vehicle diagnostics, Battery Warranty
Verification, Vehicle Data Acquisition (DAQ).
The EMS also controls the outputs on its instrument panel, such as the SOC meter,
an efficiency gauge and the diagnostic indicators.
The EMS communicates with a handheld diagnostic unit for data acquisition and service diagnostics.
Climate Control seats (CCSâ„¢)
The Climate controlled seats is another unique system in it.
The CCSâ„¢ system cools / heats / ventilates the seat to increase occupant comfort
in different weather conditions.
The CCSâ„¢ has a solid state heat pump and is extremely efficient; typically energy consumption is
less than 10% of that of conventional automobile air-conditioners. As a result, driving is more
comfortable and the range is not compromised under very hot or cold conditions.
40 Pre-Production Model cars were tested for over one million kilometers
equivalent to driving around the Globe 25 times.
To understand the effect of harsh road conditions on its structural integrity it was put through the
unique Shaker test, which it has completed successfully.
During this test it was mounted on 4 posts which were moved independently simulating various road
conditions over a cycle of 2,00,000 Kilometers.
Considering unique road conditions coupled with high summer heat, humidity, monsoons and major
fluctuations in supply voltage, it was tested on rough roads in actual conditions.
Since EV’s have a limited driving range, non-accelerated endurance testing is often time
consuming. To overcome this problem, a unique automated system with a tethered vehicle was
developed.
The vehicle is driven unmanned on a test track with power supplied to it via a cable.
The entire test operation is computer controlled and runs 24 hours a day on a varying speed profile.
The track includes bumps, potholes and a water trough with 45 centimeters of water.
In addition to this some further test were conducted on individual components like power pack,
battery's suspension transmission etc to ensure a high component reliability
The automotive manufacturing methods for the car differ significantly from those of large OEMs
across the world.
It's unique design of using a space frame and ABS body panels allows the car to move from station to
station on its own wheels. The current manufacturing facility of RECC has a capacity to produce
3000 cars per annum which will be extended to 5000 cars per annum within 6 months time. This
expansion plan is in line with the expected increased demand both from the domestic as well as the
export market.

To ensure a very high degree of quality and reliability. Each Car rolling out of the assembly is
checked for over 100 parameters. In addition, each car is tested on a Vehicle dynometer for
performance, range, acceleration, speed and efficiency and is also passed through a shower test.

It have a strong well qualified R&D team working on mechanical and electrical design, software,
prototyping and testing. We uses latest PRO- E and CAD stations for 3-D development and analysis.
This ensures that the development time for parts and components are reduced significantly.
Several proprietary technologies including the development of the EMS software
